The community and neighborhood of Irvington is also an important place to visit on Indianapolis’s section of the National Road! Butler University was formerly located in Irvington and the former library, the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, still exists today. Irvington was also known in the early 1900s as a popular spot for writers and artists. There is a lot of culture and history to experience in one of Indianapolis’s most iconic neighborhoods. Along the main commercial stretch, on the National Road, there is a variety of historic architecture, unique local shops, and restaurants.
