Butler University was formerly located in Irvington and the former library, the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, still exists today. Irvington was also known in the early 1900s as a popular spot for writers and artists. There is a lot of culture and history to experience in one of Indianapolis’s most iconic neighborhoods. Along the main commercial stretch, on the National Road, there is a variety of historic architecture, unique local shops, and restaurants. Irvington is one of Indianapolis’s largest National Register and locally designated historic districts.
