The Historic National Road passes through the heart of the county offering a glimpse into our nation’s past. An interesting artifact of the road would be the town of Centerville known as the “City of Arches” for its early 19th century Federal-style brick row houses with archways.

On the western edge of the county, Cambridge City is located in the heart of antique alley. The town was originally a bustling transportation hub and stop on the Whitewater Canal system. Cambridge City has an impressive stock of mid-19th Century buildings along Main Street. Nationally known for its antiques, the town boasts 13 antique related businesses, among other great shops and businesses. Also in Cambridge City is the Huddleston Farmhouse Inn Museum and National Road Heritage Site, which brings visitors back to the 1840s and the National Road era. Inside the Cambridge City Library is the Overbeck pottery museum. The Overbeck Sisters crafted unique pottery from 1911 – 1955 and became nationally known.
